WAR BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN

India's action is in response to a militant attack that murdered at least 26, the majority of them tourists, in the scenic resort town of Pahalgam in Indian-held Kashmir on April 22. Militants had fired upon visitors to Baisaran, a mountain meadow three miles (5 km) from Pahalgam. Some of the survivors of the attack reported that Hindu men were being targeted by the shooters. Pakistan has disclaimed responsibility for the attacks, but Indian police claim two of the four suspects for the attack were Pakistani nationals. The manhunt by security forces continues. India and Pakistan have each announced a series of retaliatory steps against each other including closing the borders and suspending a river water sharing accord. Troops on both sides have also exchanged small arms fire. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi previously stated the nation will chase down the attackers "to the ends of the Earth.".
